Addiction Counseling and Level 1 ACT Services
North Star Counseling and Recovery provides individual addiction counseling for people who want to better understand their substance use, make meaningful changes, and build healthier lives.
Services are provided by Jay Johnson, a Licensed Addiction Counselor and State-Approved Level 1 Provider. North Star also offers ACT services for individuals completing DUI or court-related requirements.
ACT stands for Assessment, Course, and Treatment. Because every person’s circumstances are different, the ACT process begins with an assessment. The assessment helps identify each person’s individual needs
and determine the appropriate next step.
Services include substance use assessments and evaluations, screenings, individual counseling, DUI-related support, and treatment court coordination. North Star welcomes people seeking counseling for
themselves as well as individuals referred for ACT services.

My name is Jay Johnson, and I’m a Licensed Addiction Counselor in Montana and a person in long-term recovery.
I’m a fifth-generation Montanan, born and raised in Anaconda. I’ve called the Gallatin Valley home for about 20 years and am proud to serve this community. I’m a member and past
president of the local Kiwanis Club, and I enjoy volunteering with Eagle Mount and The Salvation Army. I’m also the proud father of one daughter.
When I’m not counseling or volunteering, you’ll usually find me flying, hunting, camping, or doing just about anything that gets me into the mountains.
Aviation is another big part of my life. I’ve been flying helicopters since I was a teenager, and I’m a commercial helicopter pilot and certified flight instructor.
My professional experience and my own experience with long-term recovery have shown me that people are more than their past decisions and more than what they may be struggling with today.
